Local Initiatives Support Corporation, commonly known as LISC, is a national non-profit organization that supports community development initiatives in urban and rural areas across the United States. The organization was founded in 1979 by the Ford Foundation with the aim of providing economic opportunities, affordable housing, and community revitalization for low-income individuals and families. LISC provides grants, loans, and technical assistance to local non-profit organizations and community development corporations (CDCs) to help them build their capacity to create sustainable and equitable communities. The organization focuses on developing affordable housing, supporting small businesses, enhancing educational opportunities, improving access to healthcare, and promoting safety and security in distressed communities. Since its inception, LISC has invested over $22 billion to support local community development initiatives in over 2,500 urban and rural areas across the United States. The organization has also helped create or preserve over 400,000 affordable homes and apartments, finance over 66 million square feet of commercial and community facilities, and provide assistance to over 400,000 small businesses.
