Cook Inlet Tribal Council (CITC) is a tribal nonprofit organization based in Anchorage, Alaska, serving Alaska Native and American Indian people in the Cook Inlet region. Founded in 1983, CITC operates as one of the primary social service providers for Alaska Native and American Indian people in Southcentral Alaska. The organization provides a comprehensive range of services focused on education, employment, recovery, and family preservation. Key programs include workforce development, adult education, child and family services, recovery services for substance abuse, and youth programming. CITC also operates the Alaska’s People Center, which helps connect individuals with employment opportunities and provides career counseling. CITC is notable for its innovative approach to sustainable funding through social enterprise. In 2013, the organization launched Upper One Games, making history as the first indigenous-owned video game company in the United States. The company developed “Never Alone (Kisima Inŋitchuŋa),” a game based on traditional Iñupiaq stories. The organization maintains partnerships with various federal, state, and local agencies, as well as other tribal organizations. CITC serves approximately 12,000 people annually through its various programs and services. The organization operates under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act and is governed by a Board of Directors composed of Alaska Native leaders.
