BellSouth Corporation was a telecommunications company based in the United States. It was originally founded in 1983 as the holding company for Southern Bell, one of the seven regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) created after the breakup of the Bell System. With its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, BellSouth provided a wide range of services including local and long-distance telephone service, wireless communication, and internet access. The merger created the largest wireless and the second-largest wireline telecommunications provider in the United States at the time. Following the merger, BellSouth ceased to exist as a separate entity and became a part of AT&T. BellSouth’s legacy continued under AT&T, contributing to its growth and expanding services in the ever-evolving telecommunications landscape. The acquisition of BellSouth played a significant role in shaping AT&T’s presence in the southeastern United States and its position as a leading provider of integrated communication services nationwide.
