About Newbury College
Newbury College was a private college located in Brookline, Massachusetts, that operated from 1962 until its closure in 2019. The institution was founded as the Newbury School of Business by entrepreneur Edward J. Tassinari, initially offering business education programs. In 1982, it became Newbury Junior College, and in 1994, it achieved four-year college status and was renamed Newbury College. The college offered associate and bachelor's degree programs across various fields, including business, hospitality management, interior design, and criminal justice. Its campus was situated in the Fisher Hill neighborhood of Brookline, spanning approximately 10 acres and featuring several academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic facilities. Newbury College was accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and served approximately 800 students at its peak. The institution emphasized career-focused education and maintained small class sizes to provide personalized attention to students. In December 2018, Newbury College announced its closure due to financial challenges and declining enrollment, a fate shared by several small private colleges in New England during this period. The college officially ceased operations after its final commencement in May 2019, and its campus was subsequently sold to Welltower, a healthcare real estate company.
