Community Living is a non-profit organization based in Ontario, Canada. Its focus is improving the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities, such as autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy, by providing services and support to them and their families. The organization was founded in 1955 by parents of individuals with developmental disabilities who wanted to advocate for their children’s rights to inclusion and access to needed community resources. Through the years, Community Living has expanded its services and programs to support over 12,000 individuals and their families in 13 Ontario communities. Community Living offers a range of services that include residential programs, respite care, support for employment, and assistance in accessing healthcare, education, and community activities. Community Living also advocates for individuals with developmental disabilities by raising awareness and promoting social inclusion. The organization is managed by a board of directors who are volunteers from the community with a passion for improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. Community Living is funded by the government of Ontario, private donations, and fundraising events. Community Living’s mission is to support individuals with developmental disabilities to live as independently and fully as possible. Its vision is for a society where individuals with developmental disabilities are included, accepted, and valued.
