Reed & Barton was a prominent American silversmith manufacturer founded in 1824 in Taunton, Massachusetts, by Isaac Babbitt, Nathaniel Leonard, and Henry G. Reed. The company began as Babbitt & Crossman, producing Britannia wares, and was later renamed Reed & Barton when Charles Barton joined the firm in 1834. Throughout its history, Reed & Barton became one of America's oldest and most prestigious silver manufacturers, known for producing high-quality sterling silver flatware, hollowware, and other metal products. The company expanded its product lines to include silverplate, stainless steel flatware, crystal, and other luxury home accessories. In 2015, after nearly two centuries in business, Reed & Barton filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The Reed & Barton brand continues to operate under Lenox's ownership, maintaining its reputation for quality silver and metal products while adapting to modern market demands.
