Ngmoco (Next Generation Mobile Company) was a mobile game developer and publisher founded in 2008 by Neil Young, Bob Stevenson, Alan Yu, and Joe Keene in San Francisco, California. The company focused on developing games exclusively for iOS platforms, particularly the iPhone and iPod Touch, and later expanded to Android devices. The company gained prominence for creating successful free-to-play mobile games including "Touch Pets Dogs," "We Rule," "GodFinger," and "Eliminate." Ngmoco pioneered the implementation of microtransactions and freemium business models in mobile gaming, which later became industry standards. In October 2010, Japanese social gaming company DeNA acquired ngmoco for $403 million, making it one of the largest acquisitions in mobile gaming at that time. Following the acquisition, ngmoco became a subsidiary of DeNA and helped establish the Mobage mobile social gaming platform in Western markets. The company operated its own social gaming platform called "Plus+" which connected players across various games and enabled features such as achievements and leaderboards. This platform was eventually integrated into DeNA's Mobage network. By 2013, ngmoco had largely been absorbed into DeNA's operations, with many of its original founders departing the company. The studio was eventually shut down as part of DeNA's restructuring efforts.
