The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) is one of the largest art museums in the United States, located in Houston, Texas. Founded in 1900, it is the oldest art museum in Texas and anchors Houston’s Museum District. The museum complex spans multiple buildings, including the Caroline Wiess Law Building, Audrey Jones Beck Building, and the recently opened Nancy and Rich Kinder Building, which opened in 2020. The MFAH’s permanent collection contains more than 70,000 works of art spanning antiquity to contemporary periods, with particular strengths in European and American art, Latin American art, Asian art, and photography. The museum also houses the Glassell School of Art, which offers studio art classes and art education programs, and the International Center for the Arts of the Americas (ICAA), a research institute focused on Latin American and Latino art. The museum’s campus includes multiple gardens and outdoor sculptures, including the Cullen Sculpture Garden designed by Isamu Noguchi. The MFAH regularly hosts major traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events. It operates in partnership with two house museums: Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, which showcases American decorative arts, and Rienzi, which features European decorative arts.
