The Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (MCIT) is a governmental entity responsible for the development and management of Egypt’s telecommunications and IT sectors. The ministry was established in 1999 and is currently headed by Eng. Amr Talaat. MCIT aims to promote and expand the use of technology in the country to improve the quality of life of citizens and enhance the economic growth and development of Egypt. The ministry works to create a regulatory environment that supports innovation and investment in the ICT sector. MCIT is responsible for implementing and enforcing policies that regulate the telecoms sector in Egypt, including licensing of mobile and fixed-line operators, frequency spectrum management, and content regulation. The ministry has implemented a number of initiatives to promote the use of technology and connectivity in Egypt, such as the National Broadband Plan, the establishment of technology parks and incubators, and the e-government program. MCIT also works to promote digital literacy and skills among Egyptian citizens, with initiatives aimed at providing training and resources for individuals and businesses to improve their digital capabilities.
