About Mers Missouri Goodwill Industries

Mers Missouri Goodwill Industries, also known as MMGI, is a nonprofit organization that provides employment and training services to individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment. MMGI operates over 40 retail thrift stores throughout Missouri, in addition to several other employment service programs. MMGI was founded in 1918 by Edgar Helms in Boston, Massachusetts with a mission to provide job opportunities and training to people with disabilities. The organization expanded to Missouri in 1920 with the opening of the first Missouri Goodwill store in downtown St. Louis. Since then, MMGI has grown significantly and currently serves over 100,000 individuals a year. MMGI’s retail thrift stores sell a variety of donated items, including clothing, accessories, housewares, and furniture. The profits from these stores go toward funding the organization’s mission through employment service programs such as job training, placement assistance, career counseling, and rehabilitation services. MMGI also operates several community partnership programs such as the Veterans Employment Services and the Power of Work program for individuals with criminal backgrounds. MMGI strives to empower individuals to achieve their full potential through education, employment, and support services.
