About IATSE
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, or IATSE, is a labor union representing over 150,000 members in the entertainment industry in the United States and Canada. Established in 1893, IATSE is comprised of skilled craftspersons who perform behind-the-scenes work in film, television, theater, and live events. Some of the many crafts represented by IATSE include lighting, sound, rigging, scenic, wardrobe, makeup, hair, and many more. IATSE is divided into 13 districts, each representing a different geographic region of North America. Each district is further subdivided into local unions, which represent members working in specific areas, such as a city or region. IATSE is also affiliated with several international labor organizations, including the International Federation of Journalists and the International Trade Union Confederation. The union negotiates wages, benefits, and working conditions for its members, and also provides training and education programs to help members improve their skills and advance their careers.
