The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) is an autonomous state authority in the U.S. state of Georgia that owns or operates deepwater ports and inland ports. The GPA is responsible for the operation and management of deepwater ports in Savannah and Brunswick, as well as three inland ports located in Bainbridge, Columbus, and Savannah. The GPA’s mission is to promote and develop commerce through state-of-the-art port facilities and efficient operations, while also providing the highest level of service to its customers. The ports handle a variety of goods, including containerized cargo, automobiles, breakbulk cargo, and bulk cargo, as well as forestry products and agricultural products. The Savannah port is the GPA’s largest and busiest facility, ranked among the top three U.S. ports for containerized cargo traffic. In addition to its maritime operations, the GPA also manages two intermodal rail yards, one in Savannah and one in Atlanta, to facilitate the efficient movement of cargo to and from the ports. The GPA continues to invest in infrastructure and technology to enhance its capabilities and competitiveness. In recent years, it has completed a number of major capital improvement projects, including the expansion of the Savannah harbor, construction of a new container terminal, and implementation of new technology to improve efficiency and transparency in the supply chain.
