About Citadel Broadcasting

Citadel Broadcasting Corporation was a radio broadcasting company based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The company owned and operated over 200 radio stations across the United States, including some of the largest markets such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. It was founded in 1984 as Citadel Communications Corporation and went public in 1998. In 2006, Citadel Broadcasting acquired ABC Radio Networks, which included ABC News Radio and Radio Disney. The merger made Citadel the third-largest radio group in the United States. In 2009, Citadel Broadcasting filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to heavy debt incurred from the ABC Radio Networks acquisition and the recession. The company emerged from bankruptcy in 2010 under the ownership of private equity firm, Forstmann Little & Company. In 2011, Cumulus Media acquired Citadel Broadcasting for $2.4 billion, becoming the second-largest radio group in the United States. Citadel Broadcasting ceased to exist as a separate entity after the acquisition.
