Chinese Hospital is a community-owned, not-for-profit healthcare provider located in San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood. Founded in 1925, it was established to serve the Chinese-American community during a period when linguistic and cultural barriers made accessing healthcare difficult for many Chinese immigrants. The hospital operates a 54-bed acute care facility and provides comprehensive medical services including emergency care, surgery, diagnostic imaging, and specialty clinics. It is the only hospital of its kind in the United States that was created specifically to care for the Chinese community, though it serves patients of all backgrounds. Chinese Hospital maintains strong ties to its community roots while offering modern medical technology and services. The facility underwent a major renovation and expansion in 2016 with the construction of a new patient tower. The hospital also operates several satellite clinics throughout San Francisco and manages its own health plan, Chinese Community Health Plan (CCHP).
