The Brownsville Independent School District (BISD) is a school district headquartered in Brownsville, Texas, United States. Established in 1907, BISD is the largest school district in the Rio Grande Valley region of South Texas. It encompasses an area of approximately 389 square miles and serves the city of Brownsville and its surrounding communities. BISD operates a total of 53 campuses, including 43 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, and 5 high schools. The district provides education to over 40,000 students, making it one of the largest employers in the region.
