The partnership was originally formed by Alon USA Energy, Inc. to own and operate refining and petroleum marketing assets. The Big Spring refinery's strategic location allowed it to serve markets in West Texas, Central Texas, and New Mexico. The facility was integrated with a wholesale marketing business that distributed refined products through various terminals and a network of third-party and affiliated distributors. In 2018, Delek US Holdings acquired Alon USA Partners as part of its larger acquisition of Alon USA Energy, Inc. Following the acquisition, Alon USA Partners ceased to exist as an independent entity, and its assets were integrated into Delek's operations. The Big Spring refinery continues to operate as part of Delek US Holdings' refining system.
