The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a global research center that focuses on reducing poverty by conducting randomized evaluations of social programs. Founded in 2003 by economists Esther Duflo, Abhijit Banerjee, and Sendhil Mullainathan, J-PAL is based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has regional offices in Africa, Europe, Latin America, North America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
