About ABC Family Worldwide
ABC Family Worldwide (formerly known as ABC Family) was an American basic cable and satellite television channel owned by Disney–ABC Television Group, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. The channel was founded in 1977 as CBN Satellite Service, later renamed as CBN Cable Network, The Family Channel, and Fox Family Channel before becoming ABC Family in 2001 after Disney's acquisition. The network primarily targeted young adults and teenagers, featuring a mix of original programming, acquired television series, and movies. Notable original series included "Pretty Little Liars," "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," "Greek," and "Switched at Birth." The channel was also known for its annual "25 Days of Christmas" programming event, which featured holiday-themed content throughout December. In 2016, ABC Family underwent a major rebranding and was renamed Freeform to better reflect its programming and target demographic of "Becomers" - young people in their teens and early 20s. The rebranding marked a shift away from traditional family programming to more contemporary content aimed at young adults. The network continues to operate under the Freeform name as part of Walt Disney Television.
