The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is a combat support agency of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) that provides logistics, acquisition, and technical services to all branches of the U.S. military. The agency was established in 1961 and is headquartered in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. DLA is responsible for managing the global supply chain that provides equipment, supplies, and services to U.S. military forces worldwide. Its supply chain includes approximately 3 million items of supply and 2,500 weapon systems. DLA accomplishes its mission by working with industry partners to procure supplies and equipment, managing the storage and distribution of those items, and providing logistics and technical support to military customers. In addition to its logistics and acquisition functions, DLA also provides technical services such as testing and evaluation of equipment and systems, environmental management, and energy services. The agency operates in 48 states and 28 countries around the world and employs more than 25,000 civilians and military personnel.
