About AMR

AMR Corporation, known as AMR, was an American airline holding company that was founded in 1982 and headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. The company was the parent company of American Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the world and a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance. AMR Corporation also owned the American Eagle airlines, which operated regional flights under the American Eagle brand. AMR was one of the largest airline companies in the United States until it filed for bankruptcy in November 2011 due to the financial impact of the September 11 attacks and rising fuel costs. In December 2013, AMR Corporation and US Airways Group merged to form the new parent company American Airlines Group, with American Airlines continuing to operate as a separate entity under the same name. Throughout its history, AMR Corporation was known for its pioneering efforts in the airline industry, including the launch of the first frequent flyer program and the introduction of the first automated ticket reservation system. Today, many of its innovations and practices continue to shape the modern airline industry.
